Work Out Attire // Karen Kane

Hey hey hey !! It’s finally Friday y’all and the last full work week before Thanksgiving is almost o v e r ! So I’m jumping right into it today! We are quickly embarking on what I like to call “eating season” and if you aren’t careful it can hit you square in the face. So today I’m taking a break from talking about the outfits you wear while you eat and am switching gears to talk about the cutest outfit you’ll wear while you work off the lbs you pack on from the mac n cheese, pie and other delicious goodies and some ways to get them off. Karen Kane LIFE recently launched at Belk earlier this fall and I’ve been pretty obsessed with it. The prints are so gorgeous and make it super east to wear out and about before or after your workout (as if you weren’t going to anyways). But really, sometimes I go out in my gym garb and feel like a total street rat and other times I know the prints and the pieces are cute enough where I can still feel presentable wearing them out in public. The pants fit so well and come up just high enough and stay in place so I’m not constantly adjusting them during my workout. This windbreaker jacket has got to be my favorite piece! It is long enough to cover my rear, loose enough not to stick to me after my work out and strong enough to brace the wind when making the trek back to my car. (Let me just clarify, it is a true windbreaker- it’s not warm so don’t think it will by any means protect you from a 30 degree day, but you’ll be good in a chilly, windy condition.) This palm fran print is my current favorite because it’s dark and cool enough to wear any time of the year but this dark floral print is gaining favor. It’s cute and girly and pairs well with this blush anorak.

As I mentioned earlier, eating season can really hit you in the face. For Wes and I, Thanskgiving is a marathon of four meals in a 24 hour period. We start with dinner Wednesday night, then breakfast Thursday AM, a short but much needed break to drive 2 hours up the highway, then lunch and dinner a few hours later. Whew! I think I gained 5 pounds just thinking about it. Because I do love Thanskgiving and all the carb, cheese and sugar filled goodness that goes along with it, I discipline myself in the days leading up to the glorious feast. Below are some tips and things I do to keep the guilt and the waistline at bay. As a result, I eat my little heart out and enjoy the fruits of all the family’s labor.

gym-look1. Stick to a healthy diet at least a week prior to feasting. I am always really mindful about what I am eating, but even more so when I know my big cheat day(s) are coming up. Being disciplined before helps me to not feel guilty for indulging in some more dense foods on the big day.

2. Get your work out on! Gym hours are a little unpredictable around the holidays and you may find that they are closing earlier or even closed completely on certain days. Be diligent in exercising that way your rest days can be the days the gym is closed. I love working out and it has been a total journey for me. I started out taking a few classes here and there and have a total new attitude towards exercise so I definitely recommend them! Most classes last approximately and hour and are really impactful. If you are lucky like me, you will also end up with some really amazing new girlfriends that make it even more fun to do.

3. Have Fun! Life is really too short so eat the pie. Have it for breakfast and blame it on the holiday. I really enjoy eating good food but I also enjoy working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. As I mentioned in point #2, I get to do it all with really great friends and family so it’s a win-win for me!
