Happy Friday Friends! I typically post tablescapes earlier in the week but this flamingo tablescape is so happy & fun I just couldn’t resist saving it for today so I could send you off into the weekend with lots of pink flamingos and joy. It has also taken me all week to gather myself and recover from birthday celebrations and the long weekend. I’ll apologize in advance for the length of this post and the photo overload – I love this theme and how it turned out so much! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Since my birthday always falls on Labor Day weekend, Wes and I usually head off to Charleston or Ocean Isle for our last beach trip of the year. This year we had to make some last-minute changes and ultimately decided to postpone the trip. I was bummed at first but I have to tell y’all, my family made the entire weekend so special that I didn’t think about the beach or anything else one single time. There was so much cake it was overwhelming. I love cake (and have my entire life) so much that I honestly didn’t think there could ever be too much, but it was definitely borderline – just one of the many ways I was spoiled last weekend. Another thing that made the week so special was that I was finally able to put together a flamingo tablescape for #RHentertains.
Ever since Patricia Altschul hosted her flamingo party on Southern Charm however many years ago, I have been dying to do one of my own. I never really had the right occasion to use the theme since I usually entertain for mixed company or holidays that hot pink flamingos don’t typically go with but my 31st birthday seemed like a great time to do it. The original plan was to have a dinner party for 10-12 girlfriends to celebrate and have at the shoot, but since we are still in the thick of social distancing and COVID life, that didn’t happen. I am still hopeful that we will all gather together for events, meals, and celebrations soon so I decided to move forward with the shoot anyways. It is something fun that brought me joy and hopefully inspires you to throw your own flamingo party when you’re in need of a hefty dose of hot pink.
I did a lot of thinking and planning for the flamingo tablescape because I wanted it to be fun and classy but not juvenile. A lot of the inspiration I saw where flamingos were used at a party usually had a Lilly Pulitzer theme or was for a luau or tropical party. I loved all those ideas but really wanted this one to focus on the flamingo and a shocking amount of pink. I started shopping and collecting items for the flamingo tablescape throughout quarantine and managed to put together a super fun table. I am pretty sure the hot pink tapered candles were my first purchase for the theme. I found them on Amazon and knew I had to have them. I already had the gingham tablecloth I used in this Mother’s Day post. The floral tablecloth was a more recent Home Goods find that I just loved and knew I could do something with. It was pure magic that it worked with the gingham and layered so well. The blush pink glasses I used on the citrus table from Estelle Colored Glass really softened the look of the table.
Y’all know Monogram Mary has been my go-to for all the custom napkins lately (remember these beauties from Thanksgiving). I’ve been obsessed with her lobster monogram napkins for so long now that I knew I had to ask her about doing flamingos. She was all too excited to design something special and came up with this fab two flamingo design. I threw on these fab textured flamingo napkin rings I found online just to be extra and loved it so much. Lastly, I added my pink wrapped water glasses to the table for a little texture and height variation.
To keep it from being more of a pink party than a flamingo party, I looked for ways to add more flamingos to the scene while keeping it classy. My first thought was to get those fab retro yard flamingos and stick them all around. That vision died when I realized how hard they are to find later in the season.
tip:
If you want your own personal flamboyance of flamingos in your yard, shop early & stock up.
While I was scouring the internet, I managed to find 4 sets reasonably priced and another brilliant idea. Instead of using all the flamingos in the yard, I decided to create a game of flamingo croquet as a nod to my favorite childhood book: Alice in Wonderland. I found a DIY tutorial on the Home Depot blog and quickly got to work. I loved their demo set so much I followed their guide and used their color recommendations. Overall it was a fairly straight forward process but several details and measurements were missing from the instructions. If you decide to make your own set, please email or DM me so I can save you lots of time and energy on this project.
The best part about this fun flamingo tablescape shoot was that my boy wanted to be right there with me. I’m so grateful for a sweet boy that, even at such a young age, supports and has so much fun with me despite all the prep and work that goes into some of these shoots. I love it when he hops in the photos with me and I cherish every single moment captured with him. I know that it was really the plastic flamingos on large wooden sticks that drew him in but I don’t care. Thirty flocking one has been pretty great and I owe it all to the two wonderful men that put up with all my girlie things every day.
I hope y’all have the best weekend & if you decide to throw a flamingo party be sure to tag me so I can see how you make it your own!
