Recently, I was honored with the most wonderful baby shower hosted by my mom and family from Florida. Knowing how much I love a party, my mom let me help with some of the details and let me have a say in a few things but still managed to throw in a few surprises for me. One of the surprises was this balloon bear in the front yard to welcome guests. How stinkin cute is he?! I’m still so in love and just gush over the cuteness. We had the perfect mix of friends and family attend and my heart was so full with all the love and support for baby Reese and I.
One of my favorite things about my mom and her party planning is that nothing is “basic”. Even my childhood birthdays were a little extra so it’s no surprise the first party for the first grandchild was on the same level as my wedding. I’m not super into themes, so we kept the decor simple with different shades of blue. I had a few paper lanterns around from hosting previous baby showers so we utilized those and added in these printed ones we found on Amazon. Confession: I have been dying to have a party with a donut wall. When I mentioned the idea to my mom, she said to go for it. I put my crafty hat on and with a little help from dad, I had the perfect board for donuts and utilized it for the name reveal. I did a full post on how to build a donut wall and the name reveal that you can read here.
If there is one thing we all agree on for parties is that good food is key and this baby shower wasn’t going to be any different. If we are going to party, then I’m getting in some good eats. We filled the donut wall with Krispy Kreme, had chicken and waffles with Chick fil A nuggets and had those tasty ham and cheese sliders. Wes and I love those slider sandwiches so much we make them for dinner on a regular basis. We also had the best mac and cheese, three quiches, vegetable cups and the cutest cake that matched the bear in the front yard. Wally and I have been craving cake and icing a ton lately so this was my favorite!
My mom is the master at games! While I didn’t want to do anything too elaborate because of our limited time, she managed to work in some activities our guests could do while they were mingling or eating. Each winner of the games and the diaper raffle took home some really fun prizes because, what’s a game or competition without a great prize to play for. I am a firm believer that the details totally make an event. There were so many sweet personal touches that made this first baby shower so special. My heart is so full and I am truly grateful for everyone who came to show their love and support for my child. He is going to be so loved and surrounded by truly incredible people. I just hope I can make all his future parties as great as this one!
