As much as I hate to admit it, fall is pretty much here. I mean, if the PSL (or in my case spiced apple cider) is out, it’s time to be basic fall. Am I right?! I just get totally bummed out when beach season ends. If you like to stay ahead of the fashion curve or at least somewhat in line with it, it’s time to start thinking about those fall fashion must-haves you want to add to your wardrobe. I always opt for a fun new coat (see the tweed one I purchased last year + the plaid one the year before)+ a few cozy knits and re-fresh my worn-out staples.

Overall I didn’t see a ton of newness emerge other than the prep school chic and enhanced focus on fringe. Several of the overarching trends have been creeping into fashion styles over the past year but it’s exciting to see them reimagined and done in new and fresh ways. I always love seeing a new take on an old idea and feel there is plenty of that going around in this season. Oh So Gilty

I’m kicking off this post with one of my favorites: the sparkle trend. Y’all know I’m extra and all about the sparkly pieces so I couldn’t resist shopping around for all the best sequin & metallic pieces this season has to offer. The best part: this fall trend is no longer confined to evening wear. Balance out the more formal pieces with ultra casual pieces like ripped denim, blazers, graphic tees, and sneakers.

Black is Back

Before you think it or say it, I know black isn’t n e w , but it is taking center stage this year as chic silhouettes and it-bags are all coming in the universally flattering, ultra chic color.

On the Fringe

Fringe has been a funny trend for me over the years. I remember its last resurgence and my gut is to say no, no, no. I cannot recall anything specifically terrible I wore but something about it haunts me and makes me feel like I should proceed with caution. However, like most things, new and fresh takes on an idea often open my mind to new possibilities (one reason why I never say “never”). These fabulous fringed styles have me thinking there is home for it afterall.

It’s a Mad, Plaid World

Plaid is such a fun yet versatile pattern. I love how a simple alteration to scale or color can give a garment a whole new feel. I cannot think of any other pattern that can be masculine, nature approved, traditional, feminine and christmasy at any given time.

Carry It All Tote Bag

This trend has been gaining traction for a few seasons now and I’m all about it. I’ve always been partial to a Mary Poppins size bag. My need to and simultaneous love of shoving shiz has only grown in my two years as a mama. No one has more shiz than a child under five. If I can get away with bringing one bag out of the house versus the 3 I usually have, I’m buying it! This collection of XL totes are some that serve the style conscious and the practical.

Statement Sweaters

I’m not sure if it’s really considered a trend if it’s a staple year after year but with sleeves having a mega moment right now, I wanted to include statement sweaters in this post. Sweaters are hands down my favorite fall item. I have an embarrassing number of them but I honestly live in them and either skinny jeans or leggings until spring rolls around again. Statement sweaters with big sleeves (also a huge trend for fall), cool prints or fun embellishments make it easy to put together a fun & fab fall look.

They are also super easy to pair with skirts, jeans or to layer over dresses.

Leather

It would be a huge mistake to let this post end without a section dedicated to leather (or faux leather). Leather is nothing new and you probably have a leather jacket or two in your wardrobe from years past. What’s exciting about leather this year is the way it’s being used in other categories & silhouettes and in the most fun colors. My personal favorites are the navy leather blazer, green belted shirt dress & brown culottes.
