Making the switch to being a work from home mom has been kind of a hard transition. I’m taking a tiny break from fashion to talk about 5 new beauty favorites that have helped me feel like myself without sacrificing precious time.
I never saw myself as someone who didn’t get up and go into work. I’ve always gone into a traditional job setting and for the majority of my adult working years that was in corporate retail. I loved getting dressed, putting on makeup and feeling confident in myself. After I had Wally and decided to work from home, all of that changed. For a while, I still got up at the same time and went through my morning routine but, honestly, felt pretty silly about it. Did I really need to waste time and money putting on makeup if I wasn’t going to leave the house? I’m sure all you stay at home or work at home mamas know that struggle is quite real.
I went through the cycle of keeping my routine to keep my identity as a person and not just a human milk cow, only to fall into the deep slump of “why bother?”. I’m happy to say I’m out of the slump and have settled into a happy medium thanks to a few new beauty favorites. These new beauty favorites are my sanity right now because they give me the look and confidence of having gotten all fixed up, but are practical for my day-to-day activities or lack thereof.
Face
My first favorite for the face is the Charlotte Tilbury Tinted Moisturizer. This stuff has given me new life and is actually tinted to your skin. Like her other products, this stuff is also real magic. It comes out of the bottle white and as soon as you start to apply it to your skin, you can see it turn brown. It smells incredible and has an excellent moisturizing element. In the past, I have found tinted moisturizers to be a great moisturizer with a little tint or a great tint with a very little amount of moisturizer. I’m about halfway through my first bottle but I’m completely hooked.
Second is the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream. I purchased this night cream the same time I bought the tinted moisturizer and it is also a winner. I love how creamy and luxurious it feels on my skin when I apply it. I also love how it makes my skin feel refreshed when I wake up. Unlike the Magic Face Cream, there is only one size available. It’s definitely not cheap, but 100% worth it and lasts a very long time. I have been using mine for about a month now and have barely put a dent in the jar.
Eyes
Three years ago I wrote a mascara review and raved about Mr. Big from Lancome. I have been faithfully using it for years…until now. I finally took the chance and tried Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara and I’m hooked. It makes my lashes look long and full at the same time and it’s easy to take off. I really hate when a makeup wipe can’t get all the mascara off so I really appreciate that this one stays all day and comes off when I’m ready.
Hair
My hair routine has changed the most over the past few months. If I’m being honest, I think it’s for the better. I was putting so much heat on my hair day after day that there were no days for it to rest or recuperate. My philosophy is that if I don’t leave the house, I don’t mess with the hair. It’s air dry and a messy bun for me. Part of my hair recovery has been due to regular use of a hair perfector repairing treatment. I’ve shared it in some shopping roundups before, but the Olaplex bond maintenance system is everything. I use the hair perfector as a leave-in conditioner and let it work its magic overnight vs the 10-15 minutes the bottle recommends. My hair feels great and is healthier than it has ever been.
The last of my new beauty favorites is a new to me dry shampoo: Kristen Ess Style Reviving Dry Shampoo. If it’s not a hair washing day, I use a combination of baby powder and dry shampoo. I’ve been trying a ton of different ones lately and this one smells good and offers a clean, voluminous look.
